Note

A store rating belongs to a country

The same betting app can read 4.0 in Ghana and 4.5 next door. Almost every app figure quoted in this market has lost track of which storefront it came from.

Two scopes, constantly confused

A store rating is scoped to a national storefront. The same app, same version, same day, reads differently in Ghana and in a neighbouring market, and the gap can be half a point or more.

A file size is scoped to a platform. An iOS binary and an Android build are different artifacts with different sizes, and one of them being 200 megabytes tells you nothing about the other.

Put a Ghanaian rating beside another country’s review count beside an iOS size and you have produced a row that is true of no app that exists.

How to read the tables on this site

Every rating here carries its storefront. Where a count would have come from a different scope than the rating, the count is absent rather than borrowed, and where no size can be attributed to the right platform, no size appears.

That produces a table with gaps in it. The gaps are the accurate part.

The lookalike problem underneath it

Several brands in this market have no official listing on one of the two big stores, and a search returns name-squatted clones published by unrelated companies. A page telling a Ghanaian reader to search a store for a brand that is not on it is sending them to whatever is.

Where a brand distributes directly instead, that is worth saying plainly rather than papering over with a store badge.
